The Ministry of Mornings: Meeting God Before the Rush

There’s something about mornings that feels like a clean slate, untouched, unhurried, and sacred if we let it be. But if we’re honest, most mornings don’t feel holy.

They feel like scrambling. Alarms. Lunches to pack. Emails to answer. Lost socks. And somehow, coffee that never stays hot long enough.

But I’ve been learning that morning isn’t just a time of day—it’s an invitation.

David knew something about this. He wrote:

“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.”

Psalm 5:3 (NKJV)

Not after the day unravels. Not once we feel spiritual enough. But in the morning, first.

I’ll be honest—this doesn’t always look like a perfectly quiet time with a leather-bound Bible, instrumental worship, and candlelight. Sometimes it’s a whispered “Jesus, help me” over a cluttered countertop. Sometimes it’s one verse on a sticky note while packing a lunchbox. But those moments? They still count.

God isn’t grading our devotion time by aesthetics—He’s just glad we came.

What I’m discovering is that the way we start our day often shapes the way we live it. When I give my first few minutes to Jesus—before the scroll, before the noise—my heart settles. My perspective shifts. My soul breathes.

It’s not about checking off a spiritual box. It’s about starting the day in the presence of the One who knows exactly what it will hold.

So maybe your “morning ministry” today is reading a Psalm while your coffee brews. Or playing worship music as you drive. Or thanking God for breath in your lungs before your feet hit the floor.

However you do it—do it. Give God your first. He’ll take it, multiply it, and carry you through the rest.

Let’s Talk Over Coffee

What would it look like for you to meet with God first thing in the morning? No pressure. No guilt. Just invitation.

Closing Prayer

Jesus, meet me in the morning. Before the world gets loud, speak peace to my soul. I give You the first moments of my day—lead me from there. Amen.
